🌴 Flowertown Festival is Here

Everything you need to thrive as a parent in Summerville, SC.

Flowertown Festival Has Arrived! 🌴

We hope you all had a great week in Summerville! Some things we did this week around town:

  1. Practiced fine Italian dining with a two year old at Laura for an early 5pm dinner. (They were very timely with our son’s food which was helpful, and we may or may not have let him watch Trash Truck on Netflix at some point 😂)

  2. Spent some time after dinner at Saul Alexander Playground. Our toddler loved showing his dad around the park, especially the massive touch and feel drum set.

  3. Participated in the Easter Eggventure at John McKissick field. The free hot dogs and bubbles made the men of the family happy (Daniel says the only reason he golfs is to eat a hot dog at the turn).

We’re looking forward to another memorable week in Summerville as the Flowertown Festival opens up this Friday!

To Do: Splash Pad Season is Here!

We know splash pads and pools are key to surviving a Summerville summer. 🏖️

The Ashley River Park splash pad officially opened on April 1st with daily hours from 9am - 7pm. If you haven’t been to the park before, it has a lot to offer. Along with the splash pad there are playgrounds (including an awesome zip line), trails, a pond with fishing, and a dog park.

It’s $2/person for entry (kids under 3 are free) or you can pay $40/year for the whole family. Ashley River Park is located at 200 Renken Road, Summerville.

Keep your eyes peeled for sweet treat trucks like Polar Paradise that often visit Ashley River Park to help keep you cool!

Event: Flowertown Festival 2024

The Flowertown Festival, held in historic downtown Summerville and the many blocks surrounding, brings around 200,000 visitors and thousands of vendors from near and far.

One of this year’s new vendors is Gardner’s Wisconsin Cheese and Sausage. You read that right — cheese and sausage all the way from the Midwest.

Some favorite purchases my husband and I have made in past years include a hand-sewn baby swing for our porch from Be Little Swings, a personalized cutting/charcuterie board, and prints from local artists.

If you’re looking for kids activities and rides, head to Kiddie Land which is near the intersection of Main and 6th Street. You can also find “The Locals Market” in this area if you want to support local vendors. This year we’ll be looking for the All Thing Acre Petting Zoo located behind the tennis courts in Azalea Park for some fun for our toddler.

The festival’s hours are:

  • Friday, April 5th from 9-6pm

  • Saturday, April 6th: 9-6pm

  • Sunday, April 7th: 9-4pm

The Summerville Farmers Market also kicks off alongside the Flowertown Festival on Saturday with extended hours from 8am - 6pm. The farmer’s market vendors can be found at their usual location behind Summerville town hall.

Restaurant: Kairos Mediterranean

When we want something fast and healthy, Kairos Mediterranean is our go-to. We first fell in love with this restaurant in Mount Pleasant and were thrilled when a location opened in Summerville. Kairos is a build-your-own bowl/pita type restaurant (think Chipotle/Moes’s) with fresh ingredients and sauces that are made in-house daily. I personally love this type of food but never want to do the amount of chopping or food prep it would require to make at home. The meals are very filling and give you a lot of bang for your buck!
