π΄ How to Help: Hurricane Helene
A roundup of local places providing relief for Helene victims.
Hello Palmetto Parents,
Hurricane Helene did some damage, both locally and all throughout the Southeast.
My parents, sisters, and their families all live in the Asheville area. Luckily they are okay, but itβs been devastating to see what has happened to the city and surrounding areas.
We know a lot of us in the low country are eager to help in any way we can from afar. To make it easier, we rounded up a list of local donation opportunities to support the Hurricane Helene relief efforts. This list definitely isnβt exhaustive, but a great place to start if you want to help.
Click on the name of each organization listed to see specific posts and complete details.
This video shows some of the damage that is left behind now that the water is receding. Many are still left without water and power and access to grocery stores and fuel is extremely limited.
Item Donation Opportunities
The Knot Burger Pub (Together with The CODFather): From now until Friday, you can drop off nonperishables at The Knot Burger Pub (208 E 5th N St, Summerville) during business hours and they will deliver them to The CODfather in North Charleston for the next weekend run they do. The photo below shows them delivering the first truckload they took to Hendersonville, North Carolina.
Hickory Bluff Berry Farm: If you are closer to Holly Hill, they are accepting donations of the items in the list below. You can drop off the items at the farm (245 Hickory Bluff Ln Holly Hill) on Tuesday from 2-7, and Wednesday 10-3. The gate will be open for any goods to be dropped off. Click here to see an exhaustive list of the donations needed.
Monetary Donation Opportunities
Seacoast Church: The Seacoast website offers a way to donate to hurricane relief efforts and also information on how to join volunteer teams that are responding to needs in Asheville and locally in Summerville.
Water Mission: Water Mission is working to provide generators and clean water to the heavily affected area of Boone, NC. Water Mission staff in Charleston have been working diligently to support the response effort.
Family Recommended Organizations
I asked my family in Asheville which organizations they recommended donating to monetarily who are on the ground now in Asheville giving out food and other necessities.
They recommended:
Asheville Dream Center: They are working hard to get water, nonperishables, hygiene kits, and more out to people. Check out their Instagram to see more about their relief efforts.
World Central Kitchen: They are currently partnering with one of our favorite restaurants in Asheville to get fresh food out to those in need.
Manna Food Bank: This local food bank serves the Asheville community daily and was completely destroyed by the flooding. They are doing what they can for relief efforts currently and will need a lot of support to get up and running again.
Thanks so much for supporting those devastated by the hurricane and spreading the Palmetto Parent love to those who need it.
Love,
The Berks π¨βπ©βπ¦
