    Pool party rental for up to 50 people for 3 hours. Includes large pavilion, gas grill, ping pong, Connect 4, Diving board, and pool attendant. They also host open swim on weekends they aren’t booked. Check their Facebook page for updates.

An Event: Fireworks & Freedom Festival

Fourth of July is a blast with kids and it’s always nice to plan ahead. We have the inside scoop with all the details for this year’s Fireworks & Freedom Festival at Gahagan Park hosted by Summerville Parks and Recreation and Sip of the South.

From 5:30-9:30pm, there will be a DJ, axe throwing, gaga ball, and a coloring station set up at the park for families to enjoy. The Parks & Rec tent will also have a wheel to spin to win prizes. Then as the main event, there will be an incredible fireworks show starting between 8:30 and 9pm as it gets dark.

And what’s a great event without delicious food?

Here’s the list of food vendors that will be at the event:

This event is a big one, so if you don’t want to deal with parking, shuttles will be running from Town Hall to Gahagan Park and back from 4:30pm to 10:30pm.

Pregnant or new mom? 

This weekend there’s a community baby shower hosted by Healing Hurts Ministries and New LIFE Christian Fellowship. Any new or expecting moms can go pickup diapers, wipes, baby clothes, and other essential supplies packed in a diaper bag. The shower will be hosted at 358 Liberty Hall Road, Goose Creek from 10am-12pm.

Also be sure to check out Postpartum Support Charleston. They have excellent resources like weekly walks, baby & me yoga, support groups with licensed therapists, and care package deliveries with lasagna for new moms. You can find out more by visiting their website or joining the Facebook group.

Restaurant: Viva Chicken

Fast, flavorful, healthy, and delicious- Viva Chicken in Nexton is a perfect fit for families. Viva Chicken is a Peruvian fast food restaurant that specializes in rotisserie chicken and has some of the most delicious sauces and fries out there. What’s even better? They have great deals for families.

On Tuesdays you can get the Tacu Tray which includes pulled rotisserie chicken, cilantro rice, canary beans, salsa criolla, avocado, green onions, and your choice of sauces. This feeds 3-4 people and is only $21.45.

Thursdays are Bruno’s Big Chicken Day. You can get a whole rotisserie chicken and 3 sides for $24.95❗️ 

Palmetto Piece: Creativity, A Parent’s Superpower

This week I’m sharing one of my favorite poems (above) by David Gate, a poet based in Asheville.

As parents, we’re often credited with patience, resilience, and hard work. But I love the concept of parents being stretched creatively as they raise kids to thrive. Next time you create a new song just to get your kid to brush his teeth or orchestrate a family outing just to get your kids talking, give yourself a pat on the back. You’re creating a masterpiece.
