Family Nights at Bolts and Brews

Tucked right off Trolley Road and connected to Ace Hardware, Bolts & Brews in Summerville might not look like your typical hangout spot—but once you’re there, it feels like a hidden gem. We spent an evening there as a family and absolutely loved it. We grabbed dinner from the food truck, enjoyed live music under the open sky, and soaked up the peaceful, plant-filled vibe. As a plant lover, I was in heaven. There are even yard games for the kids, which makes it such a relaxing and fun spot for families.
More than just taproom, Bolts & Brews is all about bringing the community together. They host regular, family-friendly events that make it easy to enjoy a casual night out—whether you're there for a craft brew, a slushie, or just good company.

June Blooms

If you're anything like me, there's just something special about having fresh blooms in the home—it makes any space feel warmer, brighter, and more joyful. And when it comes to gifting, flowers are one of my favorite ways to show love. That’s why I adore June Blooms—a locally rooted, home-based floral business that brings handcrafted, seasonal arrangements right to your door while supporting a local mom’s beautiful dream.
Founded by Rosalie, a Summerville mom of three, June Blooms grew out of a love for family, nature, and creating everyday beauty. After years as a stay-at-home mom, she turned her passion for flowers into a small business, offering floral deliveries and event arrangements designed with care and creativity. Knowing that every bouquet is made with such attention to detail—and that you’re supporting someone in your own community—makes it even more meaningful.
Serving Summerville and Charleston, June Blooms sources flowers from local wholesalers and, soon, will be incorporating blooms from her own backyard garden. Whether you're celebrating something big or simply adding a little joy to your day, June Blooms brings beauty, heart, and local love to every arrangement.
Check out her site for options and her Instagram to see fun updates from the shop and the blooms she’s putting together!

RESTAURANT
Shawerma House

If you're craving bold, flavorful Mediterranean cuisine in Summerville, look no further than Shawerma House food truck. We had the pleasure of trying them at a recent Third Thursday event, and their food definitely left a mark! I ordered the gyro platter—beef and lamb gyro slices served over seasoned rice with fresh veggies and a generous drizzle of tzatziki. It was packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. My son devoured the hot dog pastries, a fun and kid-friendly option that was perfect for his palate.
Their truck is located daily at 416 Old Trolley Rd, Summerville, SC 29485, Shawarma House from 11am-10pm, so you can swing by for lunch, dinner, or anything in between.
🍽️ Menu Highlights:
Wraps — lamb gyros, beef kabobs, chicken shawarma, falafel & more
Plates — as wraps or over rice with a side and sauce, options like lamb, gyro, chicken, falafel & more
Group meals — enough meat, sides, sauces, and pita for a group
Pastries — Soft dough filled with meat, cheese, hotdogs, or pizza

Creative Easter Ideas
If your family celebrates Easter, chances are your little ones are about to bring home a lot of candy and goodies this weekend. At our house, we’re definitely not anti-sweets—we love a good chocolate bunny as much as anyone—but we also know our kid probably doesn’t need to eat all 100 pieces of candy he’s likely to collect from various egg hunts. 😅
If you're feeling the same way, here are a few creative, low-sugar (and low-clutter) ideas to keep the fun going without going overboard:
🍬 1. Swap Candy for Egg Tokens
If you're hosting an at-home egg hunt, try filling eggs with "egg tokens" instead of candy. It keeps things exciting without adding extra toys or sugar—and makes for great memory-making, too. These can be little slips of paper your child can “cash in” for fun experiences like:
A family game night
Picking the dinner menu
A park or zoo day
Breakfast in bed
Staying up 15 minutes past bedtime
🎁 2. Donate the Candy (and Make It Fun!)
If your child comes home with more candy than they can—or should—eat, consider setting up a candy donation box. You can tie a reward to it (like 1 minute of screen time per piece donated, or trading in candy for a small toy or experience), or just talk about how sweet it is (pun intended) to share with others. There are often community groups or organizations that accept candy donations, especially for care packages or local shelters.
🎨 3. Non-Candy Egg Fillers That Still Feel Special
If you still want to fill eggs with something tangible, here are a few ideas that won’t clutter your house or rot their teeth:
Stickers
Temporary tattoos
Coins for a piggy bank
Puzzle pieces (collect all to complete a small puzzle)
Beads or craft supplies
A scavenger hunt clue leading to a small surprise
🌸 4. Focus on Activities, Not Just the Eggs
Easter doesn’t have to be all about what’s inside the eggs. Add in a bunny hop race, egg-on-a-spoon relay, or a family picnic in the backyard. These little things often become the parts they remember most.
At the end of the day, Easter should be about joy, celebration, and time together—not managing sugar highs and cluttered playrooms. A little intention can go a long way in making the day feel special and manageable.
Love,
The Berks 👨👩👦👦
