To Do: Springtime Strawberry Picking 🍓

Strawberry picking is in full swing over at Westbury Farms.

Westbury Farms is in the heart of Summerville at 1005 North Gum Street, nestled in an unlikely location right off of some of the busiest roads of Summerville. My son loves to yell out “COWS!” as we pass by their farm on the rush home on Berlin Myers.

The farm is currently featuring the “u pick” strawberry fields and kid friendly games and activities around the farm. You can also stop in their Marymeade Market to buy some pre-picked strawberries or other snacks and gifts from local vendors.

Westbury Farms is open for picking Monday-Saturday from 10-5 and Sunday from 11-5. Be sure to check their Facebook page before you visit, as sometimes they need to close due to weather or to give the strawberries time to rest after a busy few days.

Now take a moment to imagine a strawberry resting 😂

Here are some photos we took when we went as a family. It was an amazing time, and memorable.

Event: Helicopter to Drop 6k Easter Eggs

The Easter Egg Choppa Drop is happening on Sunday, March 24th at The Ridge Church  at 4 P.M.

What is it?

Apparently exactly what it sounds like… 6,000 Easter Eggs being dropped from a helicopter. The event will also include food, games, crafts, and prizes for kids of all ages. It certainly promises to be a memorable time.

The Ridge Church is located at 2168 Ridge Church Road, Summerville.

Looking for some Easter Bunny pictures before next week? Tomorrow, March 23rd JPAR Real Estate/Premier Lending are hosting pictures with the Bunny at Azalea Park from 1-4 PM. Automaxx of the Carolinas on N. Main Street is also hosting free portraits with the Easter Bunny from 12-3 PM.

Restaurant: Thai Taco Sushi 🍣

Just this week we tried out the Thai Taco Sushi Bar & Grill located just off of Main Street past Azalea Square.

We love Thai, tacos, and sushi so we thought its name warranted a visit. While it’s not the fanciest restaurant, we thought the place had a cozy feel to it, the staff was very attentive and accommodating, and the food was presented with a lot of thought and care. It was also delicious.

It was fun to eat both tacos and sushi in one meal and they have really unique, flavorful options like their sushi tacos. It was affordable, had a kid’s menu, and felt welcoming to families.

Daniel’s favorite part of the meal was the Spicy Thai Fish Taco and I loved the Baked Salmon Roll.

Disclaimer: we went on a slow week night and the vibes are possibly very different on the weekend according to their Facebook page… 😇

Palmetto Piece: Gratitude vs. Anxiety

As a parent, it’s easy to feel anxious.

How will life look if our family is sick this week? How am I supposed to deal with this new behavior my child is showing? When will everything get done around the house? How do I help my child who is battling anxiety? We certainly relate to frequently feeling these things!

Recent studies show that gratitude and anxiety cannot coexist at the same time. Expressing and receiving gratitude releases dopamine and serotonin, which immediately lift our mood and put us in a state of mental rest. Anxiety puts us in our fight or flight mode, and these two states cannot occur at the same time in the brain.

So next time you or your child feels anxious, give it a try together. Take a deep breath, take a look around you and find five things to be grateful for. It doesn’t mean your anxieties won’t creep back in, but it is a foolproof way to get an immediate break from the weight of your world. What a great skill to instill in our children as well.
