TO DO
Buy A Fresh Tree From A Local Business
I know many of us opt for artificial trees, but if you’re looking to continue your tradition of bringing in a real tree or want to create a new special memory this year, here are the details on how to support some nearby family-owned businesses with your tree purchase.
There truly is nothing like the scent of a real tree at home.
The Christmas Tree Lot at Mistletoe Lane: This family-owned lot has cleared the pumpkins away and is ready to create Christmas magic for families. They’ve hauled trucks of Fraser Fir and Douglas Fir trees from Western NC and set up all their fun wintery and Christmas decorations.
They open today, 11/22, and have live music all weekend.
Address: 3408 Mistletoe Lane in Summerville, SC 29485
Hours: Monday-Thursday 11:00am-8:00pm, Friday-Saturday 10am-10pm, Sunday 12:00-7:00pm
Sellers Family Tree Lot: Sellers Family Trees have two locations, one off of highway 78 and one in Cane Bay. They bring in beautiful Fraiser Firs and have an option to add flocking on the trees for that beautiful look. We bought our tree from them last year and definitely appreciated the family feel of the business and all the help they gave us to load our tree.
They opened on 11/20 and are ready for business!
Address: 10609 Hwy 78 in Summerville (Sellers Pest Control) and the YMCA in Cane Bay.
Hours for Highway 78 Location: Monday-Thursday 4-9pm, Friday 4-10pm, Saturday 10am-10pm, Sunday 12-7pm
Hours for Cane Bay Location: Monday-Friday 4-9pm, Saturday 10am-7pm, Sunday 12-7pm
Center Bend Farm: If you’d like to cut down your own tree, this is the place to go! They have u-cut Leyland Cyprus trees or you can buy pre-cut Fraser Firs.
They will open Friday, 11/29.
Address: Center Bend Lane, Harleyville
Hours: Monday-Thursday 3-5:30pm, Friday and Saturday 9-5:30pm, Sunday 12-5:30pm
Clawson’s Christmas Trees: Clawson’s strives to create a holiday wonderland to have a memorable experience with your family. Their trees come from their farm in Boone, NC and are cut down and brought from the farm every few days so your tree is as fresh as possible and will last as long as possible. They also offer a delivery service!
They open today, 11/22.
Address: 506 St James Ave, Goose Creek
Hours: Open daily 9am-9pm

Featured Holiday Market: Cool Blow Farms Holiday Market

Keep a special eye out for Dessert Designs by Gisela. Gisela is an incredibly talented culinary arts professional that offers stunning custom cakes, decorated sugar cookies, cake pops, cupcakes, and more. At this weekend’s market she will have her decorated cookies, cupcakes, and other chocolate covered desserts. Major bonus, she’s a fellow Summerville mom and we love to support our fellow Palmetto Parents.

RESTAURANT
Burnin99 Korean BBQ and Hot Pot
Burnin99 Korean BBQ and Hot Pot offers an interactive, flavorful, all you can eat experience right at your table. We wanted something new for date night last weekend, so we decided to give it a try! It was a really fun time getting to choose all our foods, concoct our sauces, and grill together. The idea of cooking your own food may sound unappealing as usually the goal of going out is to not cook, but the cooking required extremely minimal effort and about five minutes of time, so it was fun and not burdensome. The meal process is shown in the image below.
Their selection of food was jaw-dropping. There was such an expansive collection of meats, vegetables, and seafoods that you’d have to go back 50 times to try every combination of food (and there’s at least something everyone will enjoy). We loved the bulgogi beef, pot stickers, and original broth with some added sauces in our hot pot.
The environment was super fun with absolutely enormous screen playing beach scenes, lights synchronized to an upbeat 2000’s playlist, and vibrant k-pop decor as you enter. Writing it makes it sound a little overwhelming or cheesy… but it was fun. Just check out our Instargram Reel to see what I’m talking about.
We definitely enjoyed our experience and will go back, but as it’s an all you can eat situation it’s not a cheap meal. To do both hot pot & bbq it’s $38.99/adult, $20.99/kid ages 8-11, and $13.99/kid ages 3-7. Kids under 3 eat free, which is a nice perk. We think this restaurant is definitely a fun experience for families, but is best for kids 8 & up. Also if you or your kids can only eat a small amount in one setting or are extremely picky, it may not be worth it. If you’re up for trying new things and taking your time over a long meal where you can try a lot of the foods, it’s a really great experience.

Time To Sell Your House?
Ernest Govan is our realtor, our family’s realtor, and many of our friends’ realtor. I just spoke with him a few days ago and asked him how the housing market typically looks during the holidays, and he mentioned that it stays busy, and a lot of people start gathering everything they need to sell their homes — or buy a new one — at the top of the year.
That checks out. We’ve sold and bought both of our houses over the years in March, and started the hunt late the year before. Small sample size, but 2/2 for us lol!
When we moved to Summerville from Chicago in 2021, we had no idea which area of Charleston we wanted to live in long term, or when, or why.
We started by renting a house in White Gables (Knightsville). We liked it, but eventually we wanted somewhere that was our own, to put down roots, to really build a house we could call home.
Ernest Govan, the Dream Maker Agent was the realtor we chose to use, and we’ve recommended him dozens of time over the last 2 years.
The rest is history.
Ernest was an A+ realtor from our passive search to active search to offer, negotiations, paperwork, and closing. I’ve since recommended Ernest to my family (twice) and any friends that ask for realtor recommendations.
My parents and my brother and his family all bought their houses from Ernest. He’s basically a Berk at this point!
Interested in chatting with Ernest about your next home adventure? Look no further. You can email him below or simply reply to this newsletter and we’ll connect you with him personally!

Five Thanksgiving Recipes Your Kids Can Help Make
If you’d like to bond with your kids in the kitchen this Thanksgiving (or just get a little help and take advantage of a teachable moment), take a look at these five recipes that are super easy and perfect for kids. My toddler will be in the kitchen with me making pumpkin pancakes Thanksgiving morning. This is our absolute favorite pumpkin pancake recipe (that actually is low in sugar and has a decent amount of protein, woohoo)! And if you have an ambitious kid in the kitchen, have them try making their own dinner rolls.
