Happy New Year, Palmetto Parent!

We hope 2025 is off to a great start for your family. This week we followed the trash pick up schedule and are sending a day later than usual due to the holiday. We enjoyed slower paced days with family and friends. Our house still looks like Christmas exploded all over it and we’re still in a bit of a daze from all the traveling and delicious food, but we’re excited to get back to our routine and start working on our goals for 2025.

Summerville Parks & Rec already put out their calendar of big events for 2025 and we’re excited to share another fun-filled, community-centered year in Summerville. Thanks again for your support and we look forward to all that’s in store for the Palmetto Parents community this year.

Fun with Friends at Summerville’s Libraries

Here’s some upcoming opportunities for kids and families at our local libraries. Also, it’s not too late to join the winter reading program to win free prizes and books. The program goes until January 31st. Click here to see how to enter and all the details.

Resolution Rocks

• What: Drop in to paint rocks with your New Year resolutions, or words of kindness and encouragement! Leave them around your neighborhood or town to inspire others!

• Where: Summerville Branch, 76 Old Trolley Rd, Summerville

• When: Wednesday, January 8th from 3:30-4:30pm

• Who: Ages 7-18

Explorers: Marble Maze

• What: Join a fun-filled event where you can challenge your friends to navigate through an exciting Marble Maze! Register for each session through the website's event calendar here.

• Where: Ashley River Branch, 2824 Bacons Bridge Road, Summerville

• When: Monday, January 13th from 3:30-4:30pm

• Who: Ages 6-11

Willy Wonka Interactive Movie

• What: For this event they’ll be watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, sampling chocolates, and following along with prompts as the movie plays. Register on the site here to secure your child’s spot.

• When: Thursday, January 9th from 5:30-7:30pm

• Who: Ages 12-18

Charleston Bakery & Delicatessen

Charleston Bakery & Delicatessen, located at 10597 Dorchester Rd. in Summerville, has been a cherished restaurant for locals and visitors since its establishment in 2013. Their restaurant is dedicated to preserving the rich traditions of Jewish bakeries and delicatessens, offering a diverse menu of quality items. Everything they serve is made in house. Our family loves their bagels and corned beef breakfast.

Bakery Offerings

The bakery is known for its extensive selection of freshly made goods, including:

• Cakes and Cheesecakes: Featuring classics like New York-style cheesecake adorned with seasonal fruits and the indulgent Red Velvet Cheesecake.

• Pastries and Muffins: A variety of treats, from traditional rugelach to innovative creations inspired by classic flavors.

• Breads: Freshly baked challah, rye, and other traditional deli breads, perfect for accompanying any meal.

They even have gluten free options. 🥳 The bakery is definitely worth trying. Just listen to this Yelp review. “The bakery is a slam dunk, everything I have tried has either been the best whatever I ever had or made me want to reevaluate my current favorite.”

Delicatessen Menu

Beyond its bakery delights, Charleston Bakery & Delicatessen offers an extensive menu. As the Azalea Magazine put it, “there is no food group that goes unexplored.” Their options include:

• Breakfast: Served from 7:00am to 2:00pm, featuring dishes like Potato Latkes and Cheese Blintze Crepes.

• Lunch: Available from 10:30am to 3:00pm, offering a range of sandwiches, including the classic Reuben, and salads that showcase traditional deli flavors.

Coffee Bar

They also have a coffee bar serving six daily coffees, which includes espresso and lattes. They offer fresh fruit smoothies and teas as well.

The Bakery & Delicatessen is open 7am-3pm Tuesday-Sunday and is closed on Mondays.

Family Fun Winter Bingo Board

Our family fun Bingo board is back! And this time it’s the winter edition. The holidays are over and there are less events and planned activities going on around town, so it’s a great time to intentionally connect as a family by doing simple things at home. We loved seeing how your families used the fall bingo board to make memories so we wanted to bring it back.

If you’re new here, here are the rules:

Choose which activities from the board your family wants to do to complete a “bingo” (across, down, diagonal). Take pictures when your family completes each activity. When you’ve finished your four activities, post the pictures to our free Palmetto Parents Community on GroupMe as evidence that you completed the activities.

The first family to complete four in a row wins! This time the winner will receive a $50 gift card to Talucci’s Bakery, the new beloved Italian bakery in town.
